WELCOME TO OUR BLOG

Dear Friends, Students, Faculty Members and lovers of books,

This is Deb Stevens. I am the administrative director for the American Academy of Bookbinding based out of Telluride, Colorado. This blog was started as a way for all of us, those who have studied at AAB, friends of AAB, as well as those who want to find out more about this place, can keep in touch with each other during the year. I'll be posting all kinds of photos, news and updates as regularly as possible (or newsworthy). I hope you will also share any bookbinding thoughts, questions, revelations, etc. Send me your photos and let us all know what you're up to. Keep connected!

DAY THREE

Students Outside the Studio

Richard from Kansas

Michael from Utah

Instructor Brenda Parsons with Deborah from Aspen, CO

Studio

Busy Days in the Studio!

Day three of Brenda Parsons "Restoration of Cloth and Leather Bindings" finds students working on putting the repaired spines and cloth covers back on their books using a variety of Japanese papers. Students used acrylic paint to tint the colors of the Moriki Japanese paper to match the colors of their cloth covers. With the third day nearly over, it seems like a five-day workshop is not enough........too bad everyone can't stay another week!

There isn't much time during the day to enjoy the stellar spring weather we are having, though it did snow a little bit over the weekend. Don Etherington does not miss this Colorado weather, that is certain! Don Glaister arrives Friday for his two-week workshop and some students will be staying for the next class. Stay tuned......

Day One - AAB Spring 2009

Greetings Bookbinders!

Today was the opening day for the spring session of the American Academy of Bookbinding. Brenda Parsons, our esteemed 2008 graduate, has eight students for her class "Restoration of Cloth and Leather Bindings." What a fantastic class!! Students traveled to Telluride from Oregon, Kansas, Texas, Utah and other parts of Colorado for this five-day workshop. Keep checking the BLOG for daily updates on what's happening. We'll try to send you some great pics and hot news.

In these two photos Brenda is demonstrating how to clean a spine.

Lisa and Roberta visit Don and Monique

Lisa Isley and Roberta Hilbrandt were recently in North Carolina visiting Don and Monique for a week of studio time. Don and Monique auctioned off a private week at their studio to the highest bidder at the GBW Conference last year in Toronto. Lisa and Roberta were the highest bidders. I heard they had fun visiting Super B (Brenda Parsons) and I didn't get too many details other than I'm sure they had a great time and learned a ton. Thanks Don and Monique for your generosity!
